Things to Do

Walking from Pen y Fan to Corn Du

Located right in the middle of the Brecon Beacons National Park, we are in one of the best areas for hill walking in the south of the UK. We know dozens of local trails, and have all the maps and guide books you might need. We can advise on the best options depending on the weather and time of year.  The National Park Society has a few favourite walks here.

Packed lunch and a thermos can be provided if you let us know the day before.

We can also provide pick-ups and drop-offs if you don’t want to drive, or are doing a point to point walk, such as the Beacons Way

It is not just a summer destination, as a lot of the hill trails are stony and well-drained, so mud need not be a problem. Autumn can be lovely, with misty valleys, woods full of mushrooms, and colourful foliage. Winter can be great if we get a high pressure weather system, as the Beacons often get cloaked in snow, and look spectacular. You need to come equipped for all weathers at any time of year.

Cycling and Mountain-biking

May cycle ride near Brecon

On our doorstep are quiet lanes for a leisurely road ride, plenty of challenging longer routes with enough hills to challenge the keenest cyclist, as well as mountain-bike circuits that take you right into the mountains.

The Taff Trail runs from Cardiff to Brecon and is fairly easy and mostly traffic free, along canal paths, tramways and a few back-roads. If you fancy downhill mountain biking, we are about half an hour from Bike Park Wales which has trails for all standards of rider as well as bike hire, cafe etc.

Bring your own bike, or we have a small selection of mountain bikes for daily hire. If you have special requirements, a wide range of bikes for road or trail are available from Drover Holidays.  We have cycle storage, hose and a few spare parts. Our friendly local bike shop which also offers hire bikes is Bikes and Hikes.  Pick-ups and drop-offs can also be arranged, if you want to do a one way journey.

Other activities;

Fly fishing, stargazing, sheep-trekking, photography, canoeing -there are plenty of things to do in our great outdoors.  Here are some links for more information.
